Thrombosis - Process of abnormal fibrin blood clot formation

Embolus - a small part of clot that breaks off and travel to another
site in the body

Venous thromboembolism includes both venous thrombosis and
pulmonary embolism

DVT “deep vein thrombosis”
is a thrombus composed of cellular
material (red and white blood cells, platelets) bound together with
fibrin strands, which form in the venous portion of the vasculature

Pulmonary embolism “PE” is thrombus or foreign substance  that
arises from the systemic circulation and lodges in the pulmonary
artery or one of its branches, causing complete or partial obstruction
of pulmonary blood flow
